Okay I am going to talk about Benjamin Franklins importance for the science.
In the eighteenth sanctuary, a scientist was someone who thought about the way things worked and tried to figure out ways to make things work better. Today that definition is still true. Every time Ben Franklin saw a question and tried to answer it, he was a scientist. Every time you ask a question and try to get an answer, you too are a scientist. Benjamin Franklin is most famous for his questions about electricity but he also experimented with many other ideas in nature.
In 1752 he did an experiment with a flying kite during a thunderstorm. That is probably what he is most famous for. But what was that experiment actually about? Well Franklin had a theory that said that the thunderbolt was electric, so he decided to find out if that was the case. He attached a key on a kite and as soon as any of the thunder clouds come over the kite, the pointed wet wire will draw the electric fire from them, and the kite with all the twine will be electrified.
And when the rain has wetted the kite and twine, so that it can conduct the electric fire freely, you will find it stream out plentifully from the key on the approach of your knuckle.
And if you hold the wet wire with your bare hands, you will risk your life, this actually happened to a scientist that lived a little bit later then Franklin. He died during the experiment. We can thank gad that that did not happen to Franklin, who knows, maybe we would still live without any protection from the dangerous thunder.
I tried to figure out if Franklin held the wire with his hands or if he tied the wire to a tree or something like that. But I was not able to get that information. But if he suspected that the thunder was electric, it would be very stupid of him to hold it, so I hope he tied it to something, otherwise he was not clever as the most of us think.
