George Washington
He was an American national hero and was the first president of the United States, 1789-1797 He was in charge of the American troops in the independence war against England 1775-1783. The capital city Washington D.C. and the state Washington are named after him. Washington was born 1732. He was a farmer and had a pretty small military experience. As one of the leading opponents to the colonial power, Washington came in early on the political track and was elected into Virginia's parliament. He got married 1757 with Martha Dandridge Custis. The war didn’t start of well and it was much because of Washington that the men didn’t give up. When the war was over in Paris 1783 and there where peace USA got they’re independence. Washington now became one of the most important people who wrote the American constitution. Washington enjoyed less than three years of retirement at Mount Vernon, for he died of a throat infection December 14, 1799. For months the Nation mourned him.
